Happy 20th Yankee Brew News

Yankee Brew News is twenty years old. It is one of seven regional papers that Brewing News publishes. It is the brewing publication I read regularly while I was writing Brewing Battles. I usually pick it up at the Moan and Dove.

The current issue commemorates this anniversary and includes an article about the history of the paper. Another article looks at each of the New England states that the paper covers, profiling a brewery from the 1980’s and a new brewery. This is particularly poignant since the Vermont brewery from the 80’s is The Vermont Pub & Brewery in Burlington. Greg Noonan, the founder, died earlier this week.

As an overview of the craft beer scene in New England, it is interesting that the “old” breweries are some very well known ones including Brooklyn Brewery and Portsmouth Brewery. The longevity of these institutions is impressive. Equally impressive is the fact that new breweries and brew pubs continue to open, even in this economic climate.
