With two hundred shows already recorded, Barry Eva's format of "a chat over a cup of tea" has received nothing but rave reviews from guest and listeners alike.  "A Book and a Chat" is a program for writers and readers, not so much a literary show, more like... let's sit around have a cup of tea and a few laughs."

DAMES, DISHES, AND DEGREES DOINGS

Amy has been named a Five College Women's Studies Research Center Associate
for the academic year 2010 -201.  She will be in residence at Mount Holyoke College or the year.

Amy will be giving a paper, "There is Nothing Like Dame: The Wives of North Carolina State University, 1919-2009", at the History of Education Society Fiftieth Anniversary November 4-7, 2010: Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Amy will give a poster presentation
, "There is Nothing Like A Dame: The Wives of North Carolina State University 1919-2009", at the American Historical Association Annual Meeting,January 6-9, 2011  in Boston.


Amy recently published"American Alcohol Studies Matures: The Class of 1979, Thirty Years of Personal and Historiographical Reflection", in The Social History of Alcohol and Drugs , Volume 24, No.1 (Winter, 2010).

Thomson Reuters posted a story about Brooklyn Brew, a small start-up selling home brewing kits, that includes comments from myself, Sam Calagione, and Beth Goldstein.

CROSS POSTINGS

In May, Amy went on from a ten day trip to Israel where she ate, saw sights, and drank beer. She posted about it on musings and also at the website of the Jewish Community of Amherst.

In April Amy had a blog post on the site, Women Grow Business which was cross posted on musings.



 
Last night, April 16, 2009,  Amy attended the one time showing of Beer Wars  U.S. News andd World Report has two posts by Amy about the movie. Yesterday there was an interview of Anat Baron, the movie's director. Today there is a review of the movie and panel discussion. There will probably be more discussion of the movie on the blog so click on musings to check that out.
Amy will be giving a talk, "Jewish Beers and Brewing," March 1 at 3p.m. at the Jewish Community of Amherst , 742 Main Street, Amherst Massachusetts. There will also be a beer tasting and book signing. Free. All welcome!

The Social History of Alcohol and Drugs will be publishing the talk Amy gave at the AHA in January.

 
 
AHA 123rd Annual Meeting
On January 3 Amy will be giving a talk, "American Alcohol Studies Matures: Thirty Years of Personal and Historiographical Reflection" as part of a panel, "American Alcohol Studies Matures: The Class of 1979, Thirty Years of Reflection." The panel is sponsored by the Alcohol and Drugs History Society which is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary. Amy is a founding member. The AHA Annual Meeting is January 2 - 5 in New York City

To commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of Repeal, Agence France-Presse interviewed Amy for a story. AFP is a wire service so  many places picked up the story. This is a link to Yahoo News.

In the past month there have been at least three separate occasions when Brewing Battles has appeared on Amazon's top 100 Beer Books.
 
On August 14, 2008 an interview of Amy, by Robert Townsend, appeared in The Atlanta Journal-Constituiton. It was a pleasure to talk with Bob and the interview turned out really well.

A review by Amy of Pamela Pennock, Advertising Sin and Sickness: The Politics of Alcohol and Tobacco Marketing, 1950-1990 is in the current issue of The Social History of Alcohol and Drugs: An Interdisciplinary Journal .

Amy  signed books at the Connecticut River Brewers Festival Saturday September 6 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. CRBF is a regional microbrewery festival featuring up to 30 breweries and up to 100 micro brews located along the scenic Connecticut River.

On September 21 Amy  gave a book talk and signed books at Beer Table, Brooklyn N.Y. Beer Table is a very small,nice beer bar with a wide selection of domestic and imported beers.

Both events featured custom designed bookmarks.

The Brewing Battles Book Party was held on February 27th at the Amherst Brewing Company. About thirty people attended and Amy sold a lot of books. Amy read about Schlitz and Pabst beer from the book. A good time was had by all. To see a few pictures from the party click on Musings.


On February 6 Amy spoke at the monthly meeting of the Somers Antique Bottle Club, Somers Connecticut. There was a good crowd, it was very intersting to see everyone's bottle collection, and the group enjoyed hearing Amy speak about the beer can.
